"Tipping the Velvet"

Has anyone read Sarah Waters' Victorian Era novel Tipping the Velvet? The book was published in 1998, and it follows the life odd and sexually charged life of a young lesbian. Nancy Astley is a young British girl who comes from a working family class family. She lives by the seashore in a cramped house with her sister, mother, and father.

Eventually, Nancy moves away from her family to find herself in the big city, this is where the adventure begins. She changes her name to Nan and goes from being a paid sex toy of an extremely wealthy woman to being a performer in a rather adult oriented vaudevillian/burlesque type show. Nan meets a gorgeous male impersonator in the show named Kitty Butler, and she falls helplessly in love. Unfortunately, Kitty has plans to marry her fiancee and a soul crushing heartbreak consumes Nan.....
